Kevin Rearick - PMG Dad

My name is Kevin Rearick and I'm the father to a wonderful son. I am a graphic/web designer by trade, who was without a full-time job for over three years. While not the bread-winner was not been easy for me, it converted me to the role of full-time Dad, allowed me to attend therapy sessions, spend time with his teachers and go to all his appointments. Opportunities with my son which I otherwise would not have had if I was working full-time. I don't regret any of the time that I've spent with my son and I'm glad that he can be the priority in my life.

As the father of only one child I have no real experience with what's 'normal' regarding childhood development, and milestones. This was intentional, even before his diagnosis, as I didn't want to push him in an unhealthy way. I am a very competitive person, but there are somethings that can't be rushed, and some things that God does on His own time table.

My intention is to update the site weekly. When I created this site I determined these are things I want to share:

  • I realize that I'm not the first to deal with a child with special needs and I know I won't be the last. I don't claim to be the best, I just don't want to be near the bottom.
  • There are many bright moments, the happy times normally outnumber the bad.
  • We have been and are continually blessed with the support of family, therapists, doctors, teachers and students we have encountered.
  • Don't try to take on any physical challenge or disability on your own. Finding support groups, other parents, and resources can lead to amazing results.
  • Diagnoses don't have to be a curse. Granted, they can be a setback, but if you keep working, learning and foster a postive attitude/enviroment it will reap its own rewards.
  • Outside of traditional therapies, there are many other activities, non-traditional therapies and resources that can help as well.
  • I want to be open to others to hear their successes, as we're still learning as well.
  • I want to use this site to keep myself learning, watching and thinking from his point-of-view to give him every learning opportunity we can find.

Thank you for visiting my site. If any part has brought a smile to your face, I've reached the ultimate goal.
